Postdoctoral Researcher in Signal Processing for Hearing-Aid Research

The Qualcomm Institute at UC San Diego invites applications for postdoctoral research fellowships supported by grants from National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIH/NIDCD) to develop real-time, wearable and open speech platform ( Audiology and Hearing Science research labs will use this platform to make new discoveries to improve hearing health care and translate the findings for widespread clinical use. We are currently working with San Diego State University on self-fitting protocols. Future collaborations will explore multiple noise environments, binaural processing, tools for hearing-loss characterization, objective metrics to quantify improvements in intelligibility, and more.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. with strong, demonstrable expertise and interest in one or more of the following disciplines: filterbanks and multirate digital signal processing (DSP), speech enhancement, microphone arrays and beamforming, psychoacoustics, acoustic phonetics, spatial audio, binaural processing, etc. In addition to core research, the success of our lab depends on developing simulation environments and porting them to real-time platforms. While we have programming staff to assist in realization, proven skills in Matlab, Python, C++, C and assembly-level programming will be assets.

The appointment requires a commitment for two years but it can be extended for a third year. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or expect to complete a Ph.D. by the start date. Remuneration will be based on the selected candidate’s experience. Industrial experience during studies or after Ph.D. is an asset.
